-THE HORUS HERESY -

Nemesis - War within the shadows

Dorn eyed him. “I know the assassin clades and their shadow-killers are mounting an operation of large scope. I know this,” he insisted. “I know you are involved.”
“I am not a part of the Officio Assassinorum,” Valdor told him. “I have no insight into their workings.” It was a half-truth at best, and Dorn knew it.
“I have always considered you a man of honour, Captain-General,” said the Primarch. “But as I have learned to my cost, it sometimes becomes necessary to revise one’s opinion of a man’s character.”
“If what you say was true, then you know it would be a matter of utmost secrecy.”
Dorn’s eyes flashed. “Meaning, if I am not informed of such a thing, then I should not know of it?” He advanced again and Valdor stood his ground. The stoic, unchanging expression on the face of the Imperial Fist was, if anything, more disquieting than any snarl of annoyance. “I question the purpose of anything so clandestine. I am Adeptus Astartes, warrior by blood and by birth. I do not support the tactics of cowardice.”
Valdor let the guardian spear’s tip drop to the floor. “What some consider cowardly others might call expedient.”
Dorn’s expression shifted for a second, with a curling of his lip. “I have crossed paths with the agents of the Officio Assassinorum on the battlefield. Those encounters have never ended well. Their focus is always… too narrow. They are tools best suited for courtly intrigue and the games of empire. Not for war.” He folded his arms. “Speak, Custodian. What do you know of this?”
Valdor stiffened. “I… can’t say.”
For a moment, the tension on the primarch’s face resonated through the room and Valdor’s knuckles whitened around the haft of his spear; then Dorn turned away. “That is unfortunate.”
The Custodian bristled at the warrior-lord’s demeaning tone. “We all want the same thing,” he insisted. “To preserve the Emperor.”
“No,” Dorn looked up at the windows, and he allowed himself a sigh. “Your first remit is to safeguard the life of the Emperor of Mankind above all else. Mine, and that of my brothers, is to safeguard the Imperium.”
“The two are the same,” said Valdor. There was a flicker of uncertainty in his words that he did not expect.
“Not so,” Dorn said, as he left. “A narrow view, Custodian.” The primarch paused on the threshold and spoke one last time, without looking back. “This conversation is not ended, Valdor.”

Just thought I would post that awesome text between dorn and the captain of the custodes

Fact: as it says up there the space marines are ment to protect the imperium (Sorta) and the custodes are supposed to protect the emperor

- DEATHWATCH -
Specialists Ranks - Deathwatch Keeper
A Deathwatch Keeper is a unique specialist Space Marine rank that is found exclusively in the Deathwatch. These Astartes are Veteran Space Marines and extremely capable warriors with many long years of service to the Deathwatch. These imposing figures bar entry to areas placed off-limits to ordinary Battle-Brothers, and stand sentinel over the captured xenos imprisoned within the walls of Deathwatch Watch Fortresses. Even an Inquisitor may not pass a Keeper without special remit from the Watch Commander. Keepers occupy positions of the most solemn trust as guardians of the holy and the most profane objects in the care of the Deathwatch.
- Role
Keepers appear most prominently on Watch Fortresses where their imposing figures bar entry to off-limit areas to those not authorised to enter, even their fellow Battle-Brothers. A Deathwatch Keeper is first and foremost a Veteran Space Marine, an extremely capable warrior with many long years of service. Keepers are often equipped with ceremonial weapons and armour to make their status clear to all. They are usually armed with tall powered glaives, double-handed Chainswords or even incredibly ancient Las-lances. Richly embroidered robes cover their armour, save for their helm and shoulder guards. Their helms bear the Imperial Aquila or the icon of the Deathwatch, cunningly wrought into their faceplates. Beneath their robes their Power Armour is of the earliest and most hallowed marks, hailing from the days of the Great Crusade. Their armour and weapons are heavily inscribed with esoteric sigils and catechisms in High Gothic.
Keepers occupy positions of the most solemn trust as guardians, fulfilling sacred duties that in other Chapters would more commonly be undertaken by Librarians, Apothecaries or Techmarines. But amongst the ranks of the Deathwatch such specialists are too few and their tasks too many for this to be practical. Instead these burdens are undertaken by Battle-Brothers who have served the Long Watch across many decades’ Vigils. Keepers are entrusted with all manner of things important to the Deathwatch—everything from alien prisoners to the starships carrying Kill-teams across the void. The rank of Keeper is only offered to Battle-Brothers with a long and unblemished record in the Deathwatch. If accepted, the supplicant Space Marine must undertake a lengthy period of prayer and fasting before they present themselves before the Watch Commander and his most trusted advisors to be put to the question. A long and gruelling trial ensues as the Watch Commander, with the assistance of his Librarians, drills deep into the psyche of the supplicant. Great temptation will come before a Keeper many times in his duties and the Watch Commander must determine that every last fibre of his being is totally loyal to the Emperor and the Deathwatch.
Not all Space Marines pass the test. Some are destroyed by it and descend into madness. In a few cases the questioning reveals character flaws so deep and pernicious that they must be destroyed before their hidden malice can spread to others. Others might show no hint of treachery in their character but lack the steely determination to give the Watch Commander certainty that it will always remain so. Only if the trial is passed and the Watch Commander thoroughly satisfied by the unshakeable loyalty of the supplicant will they be raised to the rank of Keeper. In a solemn ceremony the newly-appointed Keeper undertakes the most binding and terrible oaths to forever guard the secrets with which he has been entrusted. Finally, the Watch Commander locks a special piece of armour, a silvered vambrace known as a Clavis, around the right forearm of the new Keeper, symbolically and practically binding him to the additional duties he has pledged to undertake. A Clavis is a marvel of the Dark Age of Technology that links itself directly to the Space Marine's nervous system and monitors his vital signs.
The Clavis will only function for its selected bearer and no other while he still lives. At the point of death or removal the Clavis will shut down and become non-functional until it has been re-awoken by the correct abjurations from a Forge Master. Each Clavis is a unique and complex kind of key that has been attuned to the objects in the Keepers’ care. It speaks with an invisible light and an undetectable vibration that opens or reseals heavy magnetic locks and impenetrable gravitic shield barriers at the Keeper’s command. It also enables Auto-defences to register the Keeper as a friend and stand down when he is in areas protected by their vigilance. Aboard a starship the Clavis will permit access to the command chapel (bridge) and stir the Machine Spirits therein for the rites of activation.
Though the Clavis is both a real and symbolic tool of the Keeper it is only a part of what defines him in his task. A Keeper must also learn many secret watchwords and hidden phrases of power; he must master the correct rites of opening and closing for the places under his guardianship and the proper supplications for the Machine Spirits in his care. A Keeper is inducted into many mysteries pertinent to the object of his duties and will come to know more of it than any other living Space Marine. He may often be called upon for counsel regarding what he has learned in later years and eventually it will fall to him to conduct the training of his own successor.
Individual Keepers may carry out widely diverse duties. The most militant are often given over to the confinement and control of the alien prisoners kept at Watch Fortresses for interrogation and vivisection. They will learn special techniques for restraint and pain amplification from Apothecaries and Inquisitors to better dominate their charges, as well as details on the care and feeding of them so that they will not expire prematurely. Keepers originating from Chapters known for their experience in starship combat and manoeuvring will more commonly be placed in charge of Deathwatch rapid-strike vessels and bend their studies to combat in the void. The Keepers of starships have the grave responsibility of successfully delivering Kill-teams to their targets and extracting them afterwards. Such undertakings require a balance of subtlety and boldness that has made certain Keepers within the Deathwatch justly famous for their skills in this regard. Space Marines of a highly monastic or scholarly leaning will often be assigned to be Keepers in charge of data-crypts and logic engines (Cogitators) containing restricted xenos lore. Such data may be considered too dangerous to be freely accessible but it is part of the Keeper’s role to glean a core understanding of what he guards in case such knowledge is ever needed.
In some regions, Watch Stations must be permanently manned due to the dire nature of the threat they guard against. This duty is only given to the most stoic Keepers who are believed able to withstand the psychological impact of decades spent in lonely vigil at the edge of madness. Most highly trusted of all are the Keepers that stand guardian to the host of doomsday weapons, both Imperial and alien, locked away in Deathwatch vaults and Armouries. Despite these important responsibilities, a Deathwatch Keeper is not exempt from Kill-team duties, nor would they wish it to be so. The singular knowledge earned by a Keeper in his duties may mean the difference between success and failure for a Kill-team’s mission. When a Keeper leaves his post to go on a mission he ritually unlocks his Clavis and leaves it in the care of a Deathwatch Forge Master until his return. The benefits a Keeper might bring to his Kill-team are many and varied. For example, the forgotten lore gleaned from ancient Cogitators in a Keeper’s care might prove invaluable to a Kill-team investigating a little-understood threat. Likewise a Battle-Brother with experience as the Keeper of a prison can be essential for the capture of live alien specimens. For a vital mission the Keeper of a starship might even pass control of his vessel to a subordinate so that he can accompany the Kill-team to the surface. From there he can direct orbital bombardments and emplace Vox or teleporter beacons to ensure the rapid deployment or evacuation of Deathwatch forces.

- Vortex Grenade -
The Vortex Grenade is an extremely rare and advanced type of specialised grenade used by a few, select individuals in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The grenade opens a "hole" to the Warp in realspace, which destroys any troops caught in its area of effect. The Vortex Grenade is also an unpredictable weapon in the fact that it not only destroys anything that it comes into contact with, but also that the Warp vortex it creates drifts randomly after activation, slaying friend and foe alike. Vortex Grenades, as a result of the ancient arcane technology used in them, are very difficult to produce, as might be imagined. Only the most specialised and advanced Adeptus Mechanicus Forge Worlds still retain the technical knowledge required to manufacture them. As a result, these unpredictable weapons are only made available to the most high-ranking of Imperial servants, such as the senior officers of Space Marine Chapters, agents of the Officio Assassinorum and Inquisitors.

- DEATHWATCH -

Specialists Ranks - Deathwatch Kill-marine

A Deathwatch Kill-marine is a specially trained Battle-Brother, skilled in solo operations, who is sent to investigate and exterminate where possible or to call in backup where it is truly needed. Not every xenos-related threat demands the full deployment of a Kill-team, but many seemingly inconsequential incidents can be harbingers of a greater threat that it would be unwise to ignore. Under these circumstances, a Watch Captain will deploy these lone Kill-marines to carry out their sacred duty. Scout Sergeants often make superlative Deathwatch Kill-marines with little additional training but these specialists are drawn from all the ranks of the Deathwatch as needed. A certain independence of thought and great personal strength of spirit are in many ways more important than exceptional stealth skills for a Kill-marine, for they must possess the right temperament to operate for long periods of time cut off from their kind and from their Chapter. Kill-marines spend time living alongside those they must ultimately defend, sharing their trials and seeing the world through their eyes.

- IRON WARRIORS -
The Fall of the Black Judges
The first major engagement of the IV Legion under the direct command of their Primarch was the attack against a foe who would sorely test the Legion's mettle and open the campaign to bring the Meratara Cluster into Imperial Compliance. Taking his newly constituted Expeditionary Fleet, Perturabo drove straight for the heart of the cluster and the hostile power he knew resided there. On Olympia the enemy Perturabo sought had been little more than legend, but the last time their shadow had fallen on that world, their coming had led to the slaughter and enslavement of tens of thousands before their demanded tribute was paid. They were the self-styled "Black Judges" -- self-appointed arbiters of human purity, life and death. Twisted and withered creatures that had once been human in ages past, they had extended their lifespans into millennia with the help of technology as ancient as it was dark. Now their shrivelled and time-ravaged forms were encased in mechanised war machines controlled by cybernetic implants. In order to live, they required regular infusions of fresh human genetic material acquired by an agonisingly fatal extraction process, and from their base upon a barren, ravine-hollowed moon known as the "Rock of Judgement", they held sway over a dozen nearby human-inhabited worlds through terror, offering a devil's bargain of protection from xenos assault in return for a tribute of the young and healthy. The IV Legion, reeling from its punishment at its new master's hands, was shamed into a desperate desire to prove itself to its Primarch, and it was to be the Black Judges that were to suffer its pent-up hatred and wrath.
The orbital assault on the Rock of Judgement was a direct and brutal affair. Well-defended by defence laser batteries and swarms of drone-fighter craft and the Black Judges' own Warp-capable battleships, it had withstood marauders and vengeful enemies for millennia, but against the fury of the IV Legion it could not prevail. Smashing through the blockade line of warships heedless of the losses they incurred, with a score of Legion Strike Cruisers and a dozen Battle Barges burned from stem-to-stern, the Legion grappled their foe at close-quarters, launching crippling boarding actions and barrages of Melta warhead torpedoes at point-blank range. With the line broken, the IV Legion fleet pushed through, using the armoured prows of their largest capital ships and the bulwark Void Shields of siege frigates to weather the storm of ground fire and force a landing.
Although their true technology carried with it much of the strength of Mankind's mastery over the stars before the Age of Strife, the Black Judges were few in number, even accounting for the tens of thousands of sable-robed Accusators and functionaries gene-bred to serve them, and so relied heavily upon static defences and automated sentry guns for protection. Spearheaded by Land Raider phalanxes and Shadowsword companies, the IV Legion surged forward, methodically eliminating all resistance in a storm of energy blasts, while behind them came wave after wave of mobile siege guns and artillery whose pulverising shellfire shattered and brought down mountain-faces, burying gun-bastions below in choking rubble. Such was the apocalyptic firepower of this rolling advance that it obliterated the Black Judges' vaunted defences metre by metre, erasing them from existence.
It was then the Space Marines smashed their way into the lightless inner sanctums of the Night Courts at the heart of the towering citadels of obsidian that the bitterest fighting took place. Swept by batteries of lethal neutron rays and assailed by suicidal mobs of Accusators armed with powered chain-hammers able to split even Legiones Astartes plate, the casualties mounted, but the IV Legion did not falter. Once the fanatics had been slaughtered, the leading elements of the assault wave forced their way bloodily on through abyssal chambers of nightmarish surgical theatres and abhorrent instruments of the "justice" these debased oppressors enacted, to their final confrontation with the Black Judges themselves.
Sustained by their dark sciences, each of the Black Judges' armoured life support frames were all but impervious to Bolter fire, while their razor scourges and ray cannon made each the equal of a Legiones Astartes Dreadnought in firepower -- and there were hundreds of them. Against these mechanoid killers the warriors of the IV Legion would not give ground, although the Legionaries themselves fell in droves, cut into bloody hunks of meat or incinerated in the molten coffins of their Power Armour. The darkness soon became a storm of muzzle flash and thunder, pierced by the screams of the dying and the high-pitched screeching of diseased minds that had lived far beyond human sanity for centuries. As the battle raged on, the Legionaries took to using mounds of their own dead as cover from the sweeping hellish rays, and rallied again and again to charge the blackly glittering judgement engines, suffering the Black Judges' murderous fury to plant Krak Grenades or discharge point-blank Melta blasts to bring their enemies down. For an age, the battle hovered on a knife edge; in the confines of the vaults and corridors, the Black Judges had the advantage, and for every one of them that fell, a dozen or more Astartes also fell to pay the price. It was then that Perturabo struck.
Having observed the unfolding battle, his superhuman intellect had discerned patterns and vulnerability amid the chaos and din of war, and had calculated the precise point at which to attack to the greatest effect. The Primarch himself struck the ranks of the Black Judges like a thunderbolt, throwing them into disarray. Like a vengeful god he ploughed into the heart of them, blasting and burning them, ripping their machine-frames apart and tearing out the withered bodies from within with his own gauntleted hands. As the Black Judges reeled in shock and sought to realign their counter-attack against this new and terrible threat, the gears of Perturabo's plan turned and the elite heavy weapons support units of the IV Legion, already known by the informal title of "Havocs", advanced in precisely co-ordinated attack patterns that predicted their foes' response with preternatural accuracy. Isolating and blindsiding the Black Judges, the Havocs advanced implacably and ended their baleful rule, pronouncing sentence of their own with crossfire storms of Autocannon shells and plasma bolts.
By Perturabo's design the enemy was crushed without mercy and their domains were stripped of every valuable resource and technology; wreckage and weapons flowed to Olympia and the Black Judges' long-guarded secrets fell also to the newly renamed Iron Warriors and their master, who shared them with the Mechanicum in return for their aid. With the world stripped of its resources, the orbital shipyards of the Rock of Judgement, themselves relics of the lost human age of interstellar conquest, were finally set in orbit afresh around Olympia and set to work fashioning a new generation of warships under Perturabo's seal.

- GREY KNIGHTS -
Chapter Ranks - Grey Knights Supreme Grand Master
A Grey Knights Supreme Grand Master is the senior-most Battle-Brother of the Grey Knights Space Marine Chapter. This venerable rank is equivalent to the Chapter Master of other Space Marine Chapters. Also referred to as Chapter Lord, the Supreme Grand Master has complete authority over the rest of the Chapter. However, a Grey Knight can only be appointed as a Supreme Grand Master with the unanimous consent of every other Grey Knights Grand Master, thus ensuring that an unsuitable candidate does not attain dominion over the Chapter. As of 999.M41, the current holder of the title of Supreme Grand Master is Kaldor Draigo.
- Role
The life of a Grey Knight is one of sacrifice and duty as he faces the worst horrors of the Warp and sends them screaming back to their foul masters. He will never know peace or respite and he will never know mercy from his enemies, not that a Grey Knight would ever hope for such things. For a Grey Knight, life only has meaning while in service to the Emperor and deeds only carry weight when undertaken in His name. Should he live long enough, however, and survive the countless trials and struggles against his daemonic foes, he can hope to rise up within the Chapter and take on another mantle, such as that of a Paladin or a Purifier, and be counted as an elite warrior even amongst the Emperor’s elite. Those very few Grey Knights who survive the centuries battling upon thousands of worlds, slaying daemons unnumbered, may be elevated to the elite rank of Grand Master, each a spiritual heir of one of the eight Astartes who helped to found the Inquisition ten millennia ago during the Horus Heresy and which is counted by ancient tradition as the Chapter's Founding.
The Grey Knights are governed and directed by a Chapter Council consisting of all eight Grand Masters and the Chapter Lord -- formally referred to as the Supreme Grand Master. The existence of this Chapter Council is one of the Grey Knights' oldest traditions, as laid down at the founding of the Inquisition by Malcador the Sigillite and his eight Astartes recruits. Although the Chapter Lord's rule is absolute, he can only be appointed by the unanimous consent of the Grand Masters, so it is nigh impossible for a reckless or unsuitable candidate to achieve dominion over the Chapter. Each Grand Master holds sway over one of the Chapter's secondary bodies, such as the Chapter fleet or the Armoury. However, such roles are largely honorary -- the organisations in question need little oversight. A Grand Master's chief responsibility lies on the battlefield. The Grey Knights are spread thin throughout the galaxy, and it is not always possible for a Grey Knights Captain to command every strike force. The Grand Masters take charge of the most crucial campaigns where even an experienced Captain is not thought equal to the task. This most commonly happens when one of the Conclave Diabolus -- the one hundred and one Greater Daemons in which the Grey Knights take special interest -- is sighted in the mortal realm.

- Daemonculaba -
The Daemonculaba was an attempt to create new Chaos Space Marines from the mutated womb of a human female, using the pure gene-seed stolen from the Imperial Fists' repository on the world of Hydra Cordatus. It was a project undertaken by the Iron Warriors Traitor Legion, and overseen by the Warsmith Honsou. It took place deep within the dungeons of Khalan-Ghol, the Iron Warriors' fortress on the Daemon World of Medrengard. The project was destroyed through the efforts of Captain Uriel Ventris of the Ultramarines Chapter and his small band of allies.
History
The creation of the Daemonculaba began with the rounding up of human females present on Medrengard as slaves. Once corralled, they were shackled naked within iron cages and force-fed nutrients which caused their bodies to widen and bloat to grotesque proportions. Next, the Hereteks known as Savage Morticians utilised surgical and chemical techniques as well as the sorcery of Chaos to radically alter the slaves' internal morphology and embed within their wombs the stolen Imperial Fists gene-seed. Once this "birthing-womb" was readied, an adolescent human male drawn from Medrengard's slave population was sealed within through the use of a surgical procedure that was essentially a "reverse C-section."
Days later, the new Astartes candidate was reborn from the womb of the Daemonculaba lacking any skin. Provided they had not died from metabolic shock during the process, the candidate was inspected to see if he was physically worthy to be an Astartes. If he was not because his body had horribly mutated during the transformation process, he was literally flushed through the sewers of Khalan-Ghol to die in the barren wastelands of Medrengard surrounding the fortress. In rare instances, the rejected mutants survived being cast out and ultimately banded together as the tribe of scavenger-hunters known as the Unfleshed.
If the candidate passed the inspection, a new skin would be cross-stitched onto his body and his life as a Chaos Space Marine of the Iron Warriors would begin. The skin was harvested from the flayed bodies of human slaves whose flesh had first been painfully stretched to the necessary proportions to fit an Astartes before they were flayed alive.
The system could also use genetic material extracted from the corpses of Iron Warriors Astartes, which would then be implanted within the Daemonculaba and fed to the maturing Astartes "child" rapidly maturing within. As for the Daemonculaba themselves, if they happened to survive the birthing process, the nightmarish cycle would begin anew only days later until death finally brought release.
Varro Tigurius of the Ultramarines had experienced visions of the Daemonculaba, in the form of nightmares brought to him by his potent psychic presence in the Warp. This prompted the Ultramarines Chapter Master, Marneus Calgar, to sentence the recently dishonoured Ultramarines, Uriel Ventris and Pasanius Lysane, to carry out a Death Oath which required them to seek out and destroy such abominations within the Eye of Terror. With the help of the Unfleshed, Uriel and Pasanius ultimately succeeded in this mission. The Warsmith Honsou swore to obtain venegance against Ventris and the Ultramarines for the destruction of his plans to build a new army of Iron Warriors Astartes that would allow him to rule all of Medrengard, and he moved to gather a great army of the Forces of Chaos to assault the Realm of Ultramar and teach the Scions of Guilliman the price of interference with his ascension towards daemonhood.

- Dorn's Darkness -

The Excoriators believe themselves to be pure of heart but not of blood. As former members of the Imperial Fists Legion and now as a Chapter of their own, they are not alone in their experience of genetic deficiency. The Space Wolves and the Blood Angels, as well as the brethren of other Foundings, carry the flaws of their blood heritage on to new generations. The Excoriators are afflicted by a genetic curse known as Dorn's Darkness. When Dorn's Darkness takes one of their number it might appear to the untrained eye as merely a wretched palsy: a slackness of the jaw, a tremor of the limb, a blankness of the eye. But those who survive it report the experience as a living nightmare, a sleeping wakefulness in which they relive the bottomless woe of Dorn’s most trying time—the grievous loss of the Emperor during the Battle of Terra, at least as the ancient Astartes once knew him. This is both their Primarch's genetic blessing and a curse to his sons. It is to know the possibility—for even a second—of an Imperium without the Emperor. To feel what Dorn felt. The profound misery of a Primarch. The paralysing fear that even a man as great as Dorn experienced, for himself and for humanity, over the Emperor’s broken body after the end of his battle with Horus. Whilst enthralled by the Darkness, its victims cannot speak or communicate. They cannot feed themselves or take water and seem feverishly insensible to everything happening about them.

Those Excoriators who fell victims to the Darkness were left in the care of the Chapter's Santiarch, or Senior Chaplain. The Santiarch Balshazar offered the victims of the Darkness a spiritual treatment that either cured them or ultimately resulted in their deaths. He had the afflicted interred within a decorative stasis casket that was transported from the Chapter’s Reclusiam on Eschara. The casket was beaten from dull Adamantium and the box had the dimensions of a sarcophagus and the extravagant garniture to match. Its frontispiece featured a raised depiction of the Emperor; despite the casket standing upright, it represented him as prone, maimed and broken, as he was immediately following his confrontation with Horus at the end of the Battle of Terra. Balshazar’s solution to the affliction of the Darkness was to create a spiritual darkness of his own within the stasis sarcophagus. It was the most solitary of confinements, where no self-respecting Excoriator need look upon his own weakness and invalidity and where he might summon the strength of will to banish the Darkness of the Primarch and recover his sanity.

- Momentous Characters Of Warhammer 40,000 Universe -
Miriael Sabathiel, Chaos Champion of Slaanesh .
Miriael Sabathiel is a former Sister-Superior of the Adepta Sororitas' Order of Our Martyred Lady who is the only known Battle-Sister in the history of the Imperium of Man to have willingly turned to the service of Chaos, in this case becoming a Chaos Champion of Slaanesh, the Dark Prince.
History
A sign of strength for the Adepta Sororitas is the fact that in their entire history only a single Sister, Sister-Superior Miriael Sabathiel of the Order of Our Martyred Lady, has willingly fallen to the power of Chaos. The exact circumstances of her fall to the corrupting influence of the Dark Prince is unknown; however, what is known is that Miriael eventually turned from the Emperor's light to the worship of Slaanesh, and now serves as one of the Prince of Pleasure's greatest Chaos Champions. Miriael wanders the galaxy since her betrayal of the Emperor's cause, slaughtering the enemies of her God.
A full Mission of Sisters of Battle from the Order of the Argent Shroud vowed on Ophelia VII to capture Miriael. All of them swore themselves to Slaanesh after being overwhelmed by the unholy will of Sabathiel. These fallen Sisters now form her retinue. Canoness Olga Karamanz of the Order of Our Martyred Lady tried to apprehend Miriael upon the world of Cauldrus Prime, proclaiming a desire to help her find redemption, but was murdered by Miriael for her troubles. Inquisitor Tosak set out to hunt her down in the Sactifiza System. He was tortured to death in the bowels of a shattered hive city, bereft of his faith.
An entire Shrine World fell to Slaanesh through the machinations of Miriael Sabathiel. It will not be long before Miriael's warband of fallen Battle-Sisters and other, less elite Renegades is large enough to challenge the most powerful Slaaneshi warbands, those led by former Astartes of the Emperor's Children Traitor Legion. The cold fervour that Miriael applied to her life in the Adepta Sororitas is now applied to her worship of Slaanesh. Miriael dreams of the day she can lead a cruel mockery of an Imperial Crusade, and sacrifice all those who do not serve the Dark Prince.
