Dredd. No. Anyone with a simple electromagnetic transmitter and enough power has interstellar communication. The fact that they only have that, is what makes it illogical. In order for the message to arrive to the base, it needs more time than the base existed. They would have needed to send it at most a short while after i arrived here.

Tex: unless they have incredibly advanced interstellar communication...but then why wouldn't they have any form of interstellar travel in that case
