Amo: yes,in an economic sense, it is logical. There is a saying, however: Know you enemy, and know yourself, and you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. Know yourself, but not the enemy, and for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat. Know neither yourself, nor the enemy, and you will succumb in every battle.
Knowing the enemy troop dispositions is good, but knowing that the smaller group will fight to the last man with tooth and nail, and the bigger one will rout at the slightest threat, is better.
