*Mercer is still keeping watch.*

++Mercer: Fine.++ *He does so.*

they've got a few tents up and a campfire

*Mercer approaches Rockjaw*

Mercer: Right, what is it?

"what's what?"

Mercer: I thought you had something is all. Couldn't think of another reason to pull me off guard duty.

"you were out there for hours lad, you deserve a bit of a rest, don't want you tired if something bad happens"

Mercer: Alright. *He goes to bed down somewhere.*

*cut to the next morning. all of the guardsmen suffered horrible, disturbing nightmares*

Mercer: Bloody hell...I've got a splitting headache.

the other guardsmen are preparing to move out

*So is Mercer.*

"You boys well rested?"

Mercer: As well as I can be. Everyone had crazy nightmares.

"Aye I had that. Nuthin you boys can't handle, right?"

Mercer: It won't be a problem.

"good lad"

Mercer: Where are we headed next?

"south. through the Hatha ruins and towards what was the southern jungle."

Mercer: Then we should leave sooner rather than later.

"agreed. we're just packing up now. go relieve the guy on watch and you keep watch until it's time to go"

*Mercer goes to do so.*

*while he's on watch he sees movement in the far distance*

Mercer: Aw crap....

....

*He continues towards his previous guard post.*

*he sees the movement again. it's there for a split second, then gone*

++Mercer: I'm seeing movement in the distance.++

*he has viewfinders or whatever 40k binoculars are called*

++Mercer: Not sure.++ *He looks through the viewfinders.*

*he sees a corpse*

++Mercer: Whatever it was left a body.++

*the body has clearly been badly mauled. but it looks old. months old, and rotted*

++Mercer: And it's old, several months at least.++

++you sure whatever you saw left the body?++

++Not sure, but the body looks real enough and it wasn't there before I noticed the movement.++

++you're absolutely sure?++

++Mercer: Sure enough.++

*nothing much else happens...he feels like he's being watched. note the body is to the north*
